Dynamic Ridesharing Service for Commuters - PocketTaxi

## Challenge ##

1.2 people travel in one car during rush-hour traffic on average. This is not only expensive for the individual, gas prices have increased by more than 50% in the last 10 years, but it has also a negative impact on national economy: On average, Germans wait 60 hours per year in traffic jams.

Carpooling has the potential to change these statistics in a positive way. Three million Germans carpool already. Two-third of these carpools are by commuters. Hence, it makes sense to focus on commuters in the first place since they are already accustomed to carpooling.


## Current problems and the solution ##

Flextime working hours make static carpools difficult
--> Spontaneous organization of carpools up to the time the leave office

Searching a ride partner requires a manual search and long-term arrangement in advance
--> the matching is organized automatically and can be confirmed with one click

50% of the commuters say they know nobody on their route
--> our algorithm searches also for alternative routes and matching parts of the route


## Market entry strategy ##

PocketTaxi offers its service as SAAS to companies, which communicates to its commuting employees. Since there is a high local concentration of commuter they have an increased probability to share a ride.

Companies have many advantages of the service so they pay for it.
- parking lot saving: Many companies rent they parking lot. Siemens (Karlsruhe) pays i.e. 30€/month/parking lot.
- reduced CO2 footprint: EnBW uses PocketTaxi to improve their ecological image.
- attractive employer: In order have good employees, companies need a way to differentiate themselves in the war of talents.

EnBW, Siemens (Karlsruhe), Raumfabrik, City council Karlsruhe, Industriefabrik Karlsruhe and the Karlsruher Institut for Technology use PocketTaxi already. The activity of the users can be seen in the attached image.
